Key indices were trading near flat line in early trade. Indices were trading with small gains in morning trade. A divergent trend was witnessed in mid-afternoon trade as the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was trading with small losses while the Nifty 50 index was trading with minor gains.Investors are awaiting Q4 March 2019 earnings from India Inc which kick off from tomorrow, 12 April 2019. Voting for the first phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is being held today.    

Global Markets

Czech carmaker Skoda Auto, a unit of Volkswagen posted a 2.9% drop in global deliveries in the first quarter, pulled down by a decline in the Chinese car market. European shares slipped on Thursday as investor sentiment was dented by global growth slowdown fears but gains in France thanks to strong earnings helped set a lower limit to the broader decline. European STOXX 600 index dipped 0.1%.

Stock Snippets

Shares of Vedanta were trading 3% down on Thursday after media reports stated that the Supreme Court in the UK has ruled that Zambian villagers can sue the company in British courts over alleged pollution by a copper mine in the country.

Shares of Wockhardt gained 2% on Wednesday after the company in its filing to the exchanges informed that it has received approval from the United States Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for an ANDA for 50mg injection of Decitabine marketed in the US and other countries by Otsuka.

Welspun Corp received additional pipe orders of 180KMT on a global basis. The company’s order book stands at Rs 1,661 KMT worth at Rs 14,100cr.

Reliance Industries clarified that the company neither setup any gas pipeline in 2006 nor has any contracts with any Netherland company for setting up any gas pipeline.

Confidence Petroleum India said that it has received a license for ten more auto LPG Dispensing Stations taking the number from 186 stations to 196 stations.

Global Markets

Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Pharmaceutical Industry and Chemical sectors led shares higher. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.11%.

Australia stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals & Mining, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares lower. The S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.34%.

China’s Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Component fell 0.7% and 1.4% respectively.
