Key benchmark indices ended their six-day losing streak and clocked small gains on the first day of August series. Recovery was supported by firmness in auto, bank and metal stocks. The Nifty struggled to cross 11,300 mark and ended below that level.
Among sectors, except energy and IT, all other indices are ended on the higher side led by auto (up 2 %), PSU bank (up 1.1%), pharma (up 1%) followed by FMCG, infra and metal.
Anadarko Petroleum Corp,which is being bought out by rival Occidental Petroleum Corp, reported a 10.4% fall in quarterly adjusted profit on Friday, hit by lower oil and gas prices. U.S. stocks were higher, as gains in the Technology, Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.19%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.74%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.11%.
