Key benchmark indices ended their six-day losing streak and clocked small gains on the first day of August series. Recovery was supported by firmness in auto, bank and metal stocks. The Nifty struggled to cross 11,300 mark and ended below that level.

Among sectors, except energy and IT, all other indices are ended on the higher side led by auto (up 2 %), PSU bank (up 1.1%), pharma (up 1%) followed by FMCG, infra and metal.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp,which is being bought out by rival Occidental Petroleum Corp, reported a 10.4% fall in quarterly adjusted profit on Friday, hit by lower oil and gas prices. U.S. stocks were higher, as gains in the Technology, Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.19%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.74%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.11%.

The Syndicate Bank has duly paid annual interest payment of Rs 44,10,00,000 on BASEL III compliant additonal Tier I Series V Bonds.

Shriram Transport has bought back secured redeemable non-convertible debentures worth Rs 210.7 crore issued by the company on private placement basis.

Tata Steel acquired 2.58 crore rights equity shares of Tata Sponge Iron at Rs 500 per share aggregating to Rs 1292.2 crore; increased stake from 54.5% to 75.91% in Tata Sponge Iron

Tata Motors clarified that the company has no formal engagement with Fitch Rating. This is an unsolicited rating and hence the company has no comments to offer.

Shares of Yes Bank jumped over 9% as the bank said in a filing on the NSE that it has invoked pledge on shares of Cox & Kings and Ezeego One Travel & Tours Ltd.

Cox & Kings clarified on the news item appeared in Business Standard captioned” Bombay High Court allows lATA to encash Cox & Kings bank guarantees”.

Global Markets

Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Staples, IT and Industrials sectors led shares higher. The S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.26%.

Sweden stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher. The OMX Stockholm 30 rose 0.21%.

Netherlands stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Financials and Consumer Services sectors led shares higher. The AEX added 0.22%
