Volatile trading session ended with decent gains, backed by firmness in HDFC, HDFC Bank and ITC. The Sensex ended above 36,000 mark after slipping below that level in mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty ended above 10,800 mark after slipping below that level in mid-afternoon trade. Global Markets

Overseas, stocks in Europe were trading higher as investors monitored an unexpected third day of trade talks between China and the US. Asian shares rose on Wednesday, as investors remained cautiously optimistic Beijing and Washington could move forward on a trade deal. Investors will be watching out for developments on the US-China trade front after negotiations between the two extended into an unscheduled third day.

NMDC lost 3.21% after the company’s board approved the proposal to buyback of equity shares at Rs 98 per share.

Infosys will be considering its second share buyback on January 11 and a special dividend second time in two years to reward shareholders.

Pfizer informed that the company will be soon being shutting down two of its plants in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, and Irungattukottai (IKKT) near Chennai in Tamil Nadu citing lack of viability.

Tera Software has bagged a work order worth of Rs. 324.89 crore from Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet (APSFL) and the company has signed an agreement with APSFL to act as Project Implementation Agency for BharatNet Phase-II .

NHPC announced that Dulhasti Power Station has been restored on 08 January 2019. Unit 1 & Unit 2 of Dulhasti Power Station has started generation at a capacity of 256 MW while Unit 3 is under shutdown due to annual maintainance work.

China stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Life Insurance, Travel & Leisure and Retailers sectors led shares higher. At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite added 0.71%.

Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Energy sectors led shares higher.At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.98% to hit a new 1-month high.

Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Steel and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares higher.At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.10%.
